production method
In an electrolytic solution consisting of 80ml of acetylacetone and 5ml of methanol containing 50mg of tetraethylammonium perchlorate, an electrode made of 0.8g of metallic indium was placed at a sustain voltage of +50V. Under this condition, a current of 100Ma was recorded. The electrolysis was continued at room temperature for 2H, during which time the metals were almost completely consumed. The resulting pale yellow solution indicates that the acetylacetone has decomposed. The electrolyte was treated as follows to obtain the product In(C5H7O2)3. (1) the volume of the solution was reduced by 50% under vacuum, or (2) diethyl ether was added to the solution. White crystals were formed in both cases. Filter and wash the crystals with diethyl ether (4ml x 25ml) and dry in vacuo. 92% G of product was obtained in yield.
